John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of them situated in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and later settled in Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his new home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame to be inducted into the hall. Many consider Denver to be the symbol of Colorado. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other side of the world or someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first word that comes they say is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career with folk bands which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it could be a huge success. The song was performed at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver released the song a couple of days from now.
